National Tobacco
Control Programme (NTCP)
National Tobacco Control Programme’s main
objectives are Training of health and social workers, NGOs, school teachers
& enforcement officers, IEC activities, School programmes, Monitoring of
tobacco control laws and providing cessation facilities.
The
"Tobacco Free Youth Campaign
2.0" campaign was successfully implemented
in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, targeting youth aged 15-24 years in schools,
colleges, and communities. The campaign aimed to educate and empower the youth
to reject tobacco and promote a healthy lifestyle.
Through
a multi-faceted approach, the campaign reached out to the target audience
through school outreach programs, social media campaigns and community events.
The campaign's key messages focused on the dangers of tobacco use, including
its link to various diseases, addiction, financial burden, and social problems.
The
campaign was implemented in partnership with the Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Administration, Department of Education, Department of Health, local NGOs, and
community organizations. The campaign's success was evaluated through various
metrics, including the number of students reached through school outreach
programs - over 2000 & the number of community events conducted in
panchayats & tribal council – 77 with more than 2300 participants.
Tobacco Free Education Institution (ToFEI) programme where the Educational Institution will
use a Self-Evaluation Scorecard as per the ToFEI Guidelines to assess the
status of implementation of the programme in their institution. By the
implementation of ToFEI programme, schools will be declared Tobacco Free.
IEC activities are conducted
through radio jingles & newspaper ads through local FM radio “Vividh
Bharathi” & Local Newspaper “Daily Telegrams” respectively throughout the
year. Poster Ad with messages and No Smoking Sign Boards are printed &
distributed to all public places in A&N Islands. Trainings for Health Care
Workers, COTPA Act Training for Police Personnel & Awareness camps at
schools are also conducted this FY – 2024-25.
