National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP)

National Leprosy Eradication Programme has been implemented with major objectives of reducing the disease burden, preventing disabilities and to create awareness among masses about leprosy through vertical programme during 1975. This programme has been launched in A& N Islands with 05 SET’s Centre's and 01 ULC during 1975. During 1991 a new scheme namely “Multi Drug Therapy Scheme” has been introduced with the opening of 10 SETs and due to MDT and concerted efforts of vertical staffs posted at 10 SETs (Survey, Education and Treatment centre) achieved the elimination level during 2005 i.e below 1 per 10000 populations. Now the achieved level of elimination has to be maintained by the General Health Care (GHC) staffs.

The vertical leprosy services have been integrated with General Health Care Services during June 2005 for providing better and wider coverage to general public and detect new leprosy patient in their respective PHC/CHC/District Hospital area and also providing Post disease Complication management. Now, the Leprosy services have been undertaken by General Health Care staffs with the guidance/supervision of few NLEP vertical staffs at State Leprosy office functioning under Directorate of Health Services.

Capacity Building of Para Medical Staff under NLEP

2023-24

1.  Conducted two days technical training amongst Paramedical staffs of Dr.R.P. Hospital, Mayabunder during the month of January 2024.

2.   Another training was conducted at Ayush Hospital in which 30 Community Heath Officer were trained in Leprosy and number of days of training was 02 days.

 

2024-25

During the month of November, a Prevention of Deformity care Camp was conducted at PHC Garacharama in which 05 Nos. of Gr-II cases were provided with self -care kit and MCR footwear. Trained the Gr-II patient in self-care practices of Anesthetic limbs along with General Health Care staff of PHC Garacharama and this programme was attended by few students from School of Nursing G.B.Pant Hospital along with few tutors
