Mental Health Programme
(NMHP)
The National Mental Health Programme (NMHP) was launched keeping in view
the heavy burden of mental illness in the community. The major objectives of
NMHP are to ensure the availability and
accessibility of minimum mental healthcare for all in the foreseeable future
in the UT & to encourage the application of mental health knowledge in
general healthcare and in social development.
To promote community participation in the mental health service
development, trainings and awareness camps will be conducted in all the
districts of A&N islands.
School level & Block level camps will be conducted to ensure maximum
participation.
Under the NMHP, Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across
States (Tele-MANAS) initiative has been launched by Ministry of Health &
Family Welfare during the occasion of the World Mental Health Day i.e. on 10th
October 2022. Tele MANAS will be organized as a two-tier system. Tier 1 will
comprise the State Tele MANAS cells, which includes trained counsellors and
mental health specialists. Tier 2 will comprise specialists at District Mental
Health Programme (DMHP)/Medical College resources for physical consultation.
