National Mental Health Programme (NMHP)

The National Mental Health Programme (NMHP) was launched keeping in view the heavy burden of mental illness in the community. The major objectives of NMHP are to ensure the availability and accessibility of minimum mental healthcare for all in the foreseeable future in the UT & to encourage the application of mental health knowledge in general healthcare and in social development.

To promote community participation in the mental health service development, trainings and awareness camps will be conducted in all the districts of A&N islands.

School level & Block level camps will be conducted to ensure maximum participation.

Under the NMHP, Tele Mental Health Assistance and Networking Across States (Tele-MANAS) initiative has been launched by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare during the occasion of the World Mental Health Day i.e. on 10th October 2022. Tele MANAS will be organized as a two-tier system. Tier 1 will comprise the State Tele MANAS cells, which includes trained counsellors and mental health specialists. Tier 2 will comprise specialists at District Mental Health Programme (DMHP)/Medical College resources for physical consultation. The public can access the Tele MANAS helpline by dialing 24*7 tollfree number 14416.
