Immunization

  • Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) is one of the largest public health programmes targeting close of 2.6 Crore newborns and 3.0 Crore pregnant women annually.
  • It is one of the most cost-effective public health interventions and largely responsible for reduction of vaccine preventable under-5 mortality rate.
  • Under UIP, immunization is providing free of cost against 12 vaccine preventable diseases (11 National wide and 1 sub-national wide)
  • Nationally against 11 diseases - Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio, Measles, Rubella, severe form of Childhood Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B and Meningitis & Pneumonia caused by Hemophilic Influenza type B, Rotavirus diarrhea, Pneumococcal Pneumonia.
  • Sub-nationally against 1 disease - Japanese Encephalitis is provided only in endemic districts.
  • A child is said to be fully immunized if child receives all due vaccine as per national immunization schedule within 1st year age of child.
  • The two major milestones of UIP have been the elimination of polio in 2014 and maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination in 2015, Impilianation of UWIN in 2024


Major achievement of FY 2023-2024

2023-24

  • National Immunization Day for Polio round was conducted across the Island, 0-5 year’s children were vaccinated with oral polio vaccine in March – 2024 achieving 102.70%.
  • IEC Activities for Pulse Polio Immunization throughout the Island for mass awareness on NID.
  • Pneumococcal Conjugate vaccine (PCV) was introduced in routine immunization. State, district level training was conducted. Online orientation was conducted for ANMs and MOs.
  • Expansion of Electronic Vaccine Intelligence Network (eVIN): eVIN is a smartphone and cloud-based application that helps manage the vaccine supply chain, which monitors vaccine stocks, storage temperatures. This eVIN application ensures that vaccines are available, especially in underserved regions; eVIN brings the assurance of timely vaccine availability. Through eVIN real-time information on vaccine stocks and storage temperatures to help stakeholders make evidence-based decisions. eVIN is now installed in all the Cold Chain Point (CCP) in these islands
  • Uwin: it is online platform captures each & every vaccination event of all pregnant women & children under Universal Immunization Programme (UIP).it provide All Pregnant women can self-register on U-WIN Vaccination Platform to create one time registration. Registration can be also done through walk-in/on-site mode at nearest vaccination centre. The beneficiary can search nearby vaccination centre using State/District filter in order to get vaccination at desired centre. Each vaccine dose is administered to an identifiable individual only, after due verification. Digital Vaccination Record of all Pregnant women & children gets created real time. Beneficiaries will get Text SMS notifications and reminders with next due dates of their subsequent vaccination.

  • Implementation programme on PCV.
  • Printing of MCP Card and reporting formats for Routine Immunization and cold chain.
  • Printing of Reporting formats.
  • Conducted 03 days Routine Immunization Training of MOs with technical support form WHO and UNDP
  • 01 days training of MO’s on AEFI.
  • Training of Health Care Workers under Routine Immunization.
  • Introduction of Co-win.
  • Implementation of Study on Adult BCG Vaccination in association with TB division.
  • Active surveillance of Vaccine preventable disease
  • Fever with rash surveillance is conducted across the islands
  • Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) surveillance and reported
