ANM/MPHW Training School

 

Introduction

Training of Auxiliary Nurse Midwife started in A&N Islands in the year 1963. December as ANM Training Centre in GB Pant Hospital Complex with the intake capacity of  8-9 students per year staffed by only one Sister Tutor till 1979. The duration of Training course was 2 years. During the period of 1979-82 the course was suspended for the implementation of Multipurpose Health Worker Scheme and to bring in to force the revised ANM syllabus 1977 by INC. Meanwhile preparation for establishment of a fully fledged ANM training School was under way. Finally the School was reopened on 7th February 1983.

 

Recognition and Affiliation

 

The school has been granted recognition by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and State Nursing Council i.e. Tamil Nadu Nurse’s and Midwives Council Chennai in April 1994. It is inspected by the State Nursing Council every two years.

 

Administration of School 

 

The Director of Health Services, Andaman and Nicobar Administration is the overall administrative head and the Principal (ANM) is the Administrative head of the School.


Teaching Facilities

Adequate Models, Audio visual aids, Books and Journals are available.

 

Purpose 

To train Health Worker (Female) in order to provide comprehensive health Services including Family Welfare to the rural areas through a net work of Sub-Centres, PHCs and CHCs and to meet the shortage of Health Worker (Female) in these Islands especially in tribal areas.

At the end of the Training Programme, the students of the Health Worker should demonstrate ability to plan and carry out job responsibilities assigned to her under the Multipurpose Health workers Scheme.

Examination Board 

 

The Annual examination is conducted by the Board of examination for Auxiliary Nurse –Midwives A&N Islands. Secretary (Health) and Director of Health Services being Chairman & vice Chairman of the board respectively. The Principal (ANM) is the Member Secretary & Convener of the Examination Board.

Duration of the Course 

 

02 Years (18 months +06 months internship)

 

Admission Requirement of candidates

 

The candidates are required to apply for the course in the prescribed proforma and the Candidates should belong to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands 

 

The criteria for selection of candidates are

 

  1. Selection of candidates for MPHW (F)/ANM done on the basis of the” Area wise merit” of class XII pass marks “Area wise” includes Rural as well as Urban areas. 10% reserved for EWS candidates (Economically Weaker Section).
  2. All other criteria laid down in the prescribed syllabus and regulation for ANM by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi.
  3. Candidates Possessing higher qualification do not get any extra weightage   for determining the status of merit for selection in the MPHW (F)/ANM course.
  4. Eligibility:-
  •       Female candidates only.
  •       Minimum age shall be 17 years on 31st December.
  •       Maximum age shall be 30 years on 31st December.

 

Grading & Certification

 

Distinction shall be in aggregate             =         75%

First Division shall be in aggregate         =          70% and above

Second Division shall be in aggregate     =          60% to 69%

Third Division shall be in aggregate        =          50% to 59%

 

Certificate will be issued on successful completion of training requirement. The Principal should certify for each student that she has under gone successfully the internship programme, 100% clinical requirements and acquired the requisite competencies as listed in the syllabus   before the award of the certificate by the state Nursing Council/ Examination Board. Qualified MPHW/ANMs have to be registered by the State Nursing Councils under the provision of the State Nursing Councils and Indian Nursing Council Act as ANMs before joining services as a qualified Female Health Worker and to practice as ANM.

 

Stipend

 

Stipend is paid at the rate of Rs1500/- per month per trainee in respect to attendance.

 

Hostel

 

There is a double storied 32 bedded Hostel building with Warden’s accommodation, Kitchen, Dining hall and washrooms.


School building & Other facilities 

Presently ANM School is working in Van Vikas Bhawan, Haddo. For transportation bus is hired from STS department.
