The Health Department envisions increasing the life expectancy and improving the physical and mental wellbeing of the people of these Islands so that they attain the highest level of physical, mental and spiritual health to be able to contribute towards the development of these islands. To that end, the aim is to ensure availability of quality healthcare on equitable, accessible and affordable basis across the Islands and to provide curative, preventive, rehabilitative and supportive health care services to the community, with special focus on hard to reach areas.
Our emphasis is to provide a disease free living by improving the health and nutritional status of the people of these Islands. This has to be achieved through improved access to and utilization of health and family welfare services with special focus on underserved and under privileged segment of the population.
The department provides Health care services through its network of Sub-centres, Health& Wellness centres, CHCs and Disrtict Hospitals across the Islands. In addition, various societies have been formed to implement National Health Programmes like State Health Society to implement National Health Mission, Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society for National AIDS control programme and State Ayush Society for National Ayush Mission.
The educational institutions in the Health sector under the A&N Administration include Andaman & Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS), School of Nursing A&N Islands and ANM Training school A&N Islands.
The various National Health Programmes for control of communicable and non communicable diseases are implemented in the islands by the health department through funds received from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India.
